OCSEA Convention & Member System

The OCSEA Convention System is a purpose-built management application for the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association's 33rd Biennial Convention, handling check-in, check-out, and registration for over 700 union member attendees. The system used barcode scanning and union member IDs to track entries in real time and automatically count quorum for floor votes as members entered and exited the convention floor, a critical function given that quorum thresholds have procedural and legal weight in a union setting.

I built the convention system based on a broken prototype that existed before I got involved, this was as a contract via ComResource, my initial goal was to fix, improve, or rebuild this system and support it during the convention itself, serving as Lead Web Developer during this project. I got the system working properly, supported the convention, aided in network, printer, and PC support during the convention itself and ensured things ran smoothly alongside OCSEA's Database Engineer and System Administrator.

OCSEA appreciated the work and time I spent with them during the convention that they requested I come back to extend their existing member dashboard built in C# and .NET, adding new features and integrating DocuSign on tablet or desktop. The DocuSign integration specifically replaced a paper process, which for union memberships where document validity and member consent are not optional details, required careful attention to the signing flow and audit trail.

This was one of the more consequential projects I worked on at ComResource in terms of real-world stakes. Convention quorum failures have procedural implications and membership documents carry legal weight. Building something people were depending on to work correctly in a live, high-attendance environment with no margin for real-time debugging was a different kind of pressure than most client work. The fact that I did well enough for them to ask for me by name when afterwards and be invited back more than once was extremely rewarding.
